Add gmail to list of webmail providers
With version 10 Opera introduced a list of webmail providers that the browser could be automated to work with. This means that, whenever you hit a :mailto link the browser would open the webmail site with the address included. It also works with sending links and selected text from a page. Unfortunately, Gmail and some other popular providers were soon dropped from the list because they do not support Opera properly. Personally, i think limited support is better than no support, so here is a webmailproviders.ini file that includes Gmail. It's limited in that it does not open the full Gmail interface, all you get is the compose window, still, it's better than nothing. To install the included file, see the installation instructions on the right.
If you have already modified your webmailproviders file and do not want to replace it, simply open the file and add these lines
[Gmail] ID=1 URL=https://mail.google.com/mail/?extsrc=mailto&url=%s ICON=http://mail.google.com/mail/images/favicon.ico
Replace the ID number with an appropriate number.
Right click the link to the .ini file, then click Save linked content as. Save the file to the folder named defaults in Opera's root folder. You can find the location of the root folder by going to opera:config and searching for defaults. It's the folder that the Plugin Ignore File is in as well. Linux users, please note that you need root access to replace or edit this file.
Next, go to preferences->advanced->programs click mailto then edit, select gmail from the dropdown menu en press ok.

But I like that behavior! :P (I've been using this same edit for... a while, wouldn't know how long).
